The aim of this network is to promote the preservation of European biodiversity, while also taking account of local socio-economic and cultural activities.

In Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, the Natura 2000 Pointe Fauconnière sites covers 764 hectares (including 232 hectares at sea).
Its objectives are:
Protecting rare species at European level and their natural habitats. Promoting the preservation of European biodiversity while taking account of socio-economic, cultural and regional factors.
